ā FAQ - 5 questions
1. How is this sealant different from regular silicone?
Regular silicone does not contain any mold inhibitors, so it can easily start to mold in damp areas. This sealant has an effective mold inhibitor (often a built-in fungus and bacteria inhibitor) that keeps the joints clean and prevents blackening. High-quality brands such as Sika have Mould ShieldĀ® technology that protects against mold for up to 5 years.
2. How do you apply this sealant?
Clean and dry the surface to be sealed thoroughly. Remove old silicone and dust. 2) Cut the tip of the sealant tube to a suitable angle and install it in the caulking gun. 3) Apply the sealant evenly to the joint. 4) Level the surface using a spatula, wet finger or caulking iron. 5) Let it dry for 24-48 hours before exposing it to water.
3. How long is the service life of this sealant?
A high-quality anti-mold silicone sealant typically retains its properties and anti-mold ability for 5-10 years, depending on the operating conditions and manufacturer. The exact duration depends on, among other things, ventilation, moisture stress and cleaning agents.
4. Can this also be used outdoors?
Yes! Most high-quality anti-mold silicone sealants are also suitable for outdoor use, as they are resistant to UV radiation, rain and temperature fluctuations (-50°C ... +250°C). They are ideal for sealing windows and doors, for example.
5. Can I paint over this sealant?
Regular silicone sealant cannot be painted - paint does not adhere to silicone. However, there are special sealants (such as hybrid-based sealants) that are suitable for painting. If you want a paintable sealant, make sure in the product information that it is marked "overpaintable".
6. Is this safe to use in dining areas?
This sealant is not intended for use on surfaces that come into direct contact with food. However, it can be used in the kitchen, for example to seal the edges of a sink, keeping it away from the food preparation surface. Make sure the sealant is fully cured before use.
